What is NBR?

I’ve been doing NBR extensions for six months and I’m still asked quite frequently what NBR is. This is totally understandable, because I think I’m only the second person in our state to become certified. I’m a tiny bit proud of that! NBR stands for natural beaded rows. Its an extension method created by Danielle White, designed to look and feel natural and seamless. There’s so many steps to make this method come to life. We can save all the details for later, but I want to touch on the basics! I think its so important for people to be educated.
First off, there are so many “hand tied” methods of hair extensions, so let’s get something worked out….Hand tied hair is a type of weft we use to sew into the track. It is not a method. The thing I love so much about NBR is that we are consistently educated and our trainers are always looking for ways to help us improve and teach us new techniques throughout the process. We cannot improve our skill without reps.
As I said before, for a service like this there is so much detail. First thing we do is have a consultation. This is where we discuss your hair goals and where your hair is currently at. The hair itself can be installed at 14, 18, or 22 inches. There are so many options! Maybe you have a short bob and you’re just needing some fullness. Maybe your hair is super long, but you just want to fill in those sparse ends. Don’t worry, we got you.
The beauty of NBR is that each experience is custom to the individual. The wefts are custom colored and installed according to how many rows you need. We create a horseshoe-shaped track in your hair. Once the track is in, we custom place each piece of hair to blend seamlessly to your own hair. The hair is stitched precisely, and carefully, onto the track so that your wefts don’t show. The best part is that it feels comfortable and natural!
From here we cut the extensions to blend to your own hair. Most likely, your stylist will give your hair a trim so that it can continue to grow nice and healthy while you wear the extensions. This part involves lots of slide cutting and texturing to make sure that blend is on point. Then we style the hair! If you guys haven’t noticed, my favorite way to style is a relaxed wavy curl. Theres just nothing better than that lived in, effortless look.
NBR is an incredible experience. However, just like anything else, it’s not for everyone. Some people actually do prefer other methods and that is just fine! As a stylist I encourage you to do your research on all methods and choose whats best for you. Keep in mind, when getting “hand-tied” extensions, the term “hand-tied” refers to a type of weft. Not a method. For me, NBR is the cream of the crop.
